GNOME 48 Desktop Introducing An Official Audio Player: Decibels

Phoronix: GNOME 48 Desktop Introducing An Official Audio Player: Decibels

The modern GNOME desktop hasn't had a core application to playback audio files although many different audio/multimedia players exist. But now for the upcoming GNOME 48 desktop release, there is now a promoted core app for audio playback: Decibels...

    Total waste of resources.
Gnome has a huge NIH problem.
They can't solve the usability issue of their DE for so many people, or the lack of proper theming from the libadwaita turd because of "the burden of maintenance", then they go reinvent every possible wheel with low quality in-house stuff. 🤷🏼‍♂️
    Go figure...

Gnome 3+ is built on the Windows 8 concept.
But while Microsoft realized their mistakes and went back to a proper desktop interface, Gnome did double down and still promotes that deprecated tablet design concept.

Grow up, Gnomes, it has been 12 years. Join us in the current year.

Another unnecessary thing that 2.5 cripples will finish 10 years later

Visually very pleasing. Cool name as well. Hope to see it in Debian before next stable release.

TypeScript aka JavaScript, probably on something bloated like Electron, and an extremely simple (in features) and bloated (in resources) player. Sounds exactly like a typical GNOME app.

Should have gone with Amberol. Much faster and lighter on resources.

absolutely sick of apps being written in shit like python or js just because they can. Applications need to start respecting users resources again.

                Very next sentence:
Decibels though does use the GTK4 toolkit and libadwaita.

If there where a like button I would have pushed it as many times as possible.

Resources are also the space consumed on screen. Let users configure this system wide and don't let applications waste half the space with empty pixels.

Personally I use DeaDBeeF audio player because it is compact, efficient and plays just about anything. Not unlike Delitracker/Deliplayer/Eagleplayer etc... Just the way a audio player should be. Small (or as big as you configured it) and efficient!!!
