Great. I just hope that the Wayland stuff (which might be the future apparently) does not affect X functionality or stability.

Xfce has been stable as a three legged table for years and I have never had any issues with it.

The only thing I miss is a task switcher (alt-tab like thing) that allows you to pick between all windows on one screen like the compiz ring switcher.

Here's the winning default wallpaper for Xfce 4.20:
I don't want to see the one that came in last place.

They are alright. Unlike inkscape's art submission 😳

You can watch them all here.
            Indeed, some are actually forgettable

It's this one with three votes.

I honestly didn't come here to hate on anyone's artwork, but, dammit, it's a nuclear green mouse and the background is the color of Thanos's taint. I prefer its alternate versions.

Well if the only problem of XFCE is the default background we are in perfect shape.

I hardly see my desktop and if I do I want it dark and low contrast, to not distract me from doing stuff.

IMHO, it comes down to whether you rely or use next-gen Linux graphical abilities or not. By that I mean if you use something like KDE or Sway and have worked HDR into your workflow. If you don't or haven't, XFCE is a great environment.

It's times like this that I wish there was the One Compositor Library to Rule Them All. We just can't run KWin on top of XFCE to get Graphical 1337 like we could during the X11 era.

I'm the opposite with my wallpaper. I like brighter images with high contrast. With that description you'd think I'd like the one above, but I like the one that came in 2nd place the most. Practically everything installed on my PC uses some drab and dull dark theme so it's nice to have the occasional colorful happiness when I'm in between tasks.

I think you'll need a Wlroots based compositor to run xfce-panel (for now) but it is not necessarily true indefinitely.

It might be possible to add whatever protocol is currently in Wlroots but not in KWin as a KWin plugin, etc.
