    No thanks!

I'll use Google Docs, I'll use Microsoft Office 365, I'll write my documents in Markdown or LaTeX, I'll give OnlyOffice a try, but I've given up on LibreOffice.

LibreOffice is old, outdated, ugly and not user-friendly.

Heh, I'm the exact opposite. To each their own.

Much prefer LibreOffice to anything with that stupid ribbon interface that hides functionality and moves it around every few weeks. Google Docs is okay for quick documents that need to be shared with others. But anything that needs lots of formatting (using styles) or goes beyond a handful of pages is written in LibreOffice.

We use it at work and at home, on Windows and Linux.

Did you seriously early bird the thread just to say you prefer closed-source spyware because "open-source is old and ugly"?

I think, he just means that LO is not reaching his expectations at all.

I also tried many times to love LO, and like once a year I give it a try, hoping they modernized things. And every year, I am like "nope, that's not for me."

I don't get it, this software is barely different from 20 years ago when it was called OpenOffice dot org, and it's super heavy on the disk for what it does (like how?).

Writing office software is clearly not a passion for many devs, and that is why the offer is so limited and underwhelming, but I'd like to see a fresh newcomer at this point.

Yes, I've tried LibreOffice, time after time, year after year, and it just looks more bleak every time I try it, it looks stuck in the past. Yes, its just like it was back in the days of OpenOffice dot org, there have been no noticeable progress. Now I lost all interest in LibreOffice.

It's a fucking spreadsheet. You want it to be shinier or something? Play your favourite song when you open it?

OnlyOffice is a superior experience and has much better support for MS Word .doc/docx and .xls/xlsx documents. I gave Libreoffice an honest try, but it really does suck ass compared to other "free" word-processor/spreadsheet products currently available. OnlyOffice is also "open source" -- but has paid versions for corporate use.

                  Just saying.

It's still a good thing to have the menus and the UI around the spreadsheet that feel like it's 2024, and not 2002.

A video player mainly displays the video it plays, that doesn't mean that nobody care about its UI...
