I think people also don't realize just how complicated some web specs are to actually implement. I think that YouTube support in Servo would be a huge win for example, but the spec for Media Source Extensions is massive and will require one or more people that both have domain expertise in Servo's internals and GStreamer, of which I wager there are very few currently, much less any that also have the time to commit to it. Could be a good candidate for Igalia's help but I know they still have a lot on their plate with continued layout work, mobile support, performance, etc.

Of course it does not. It's a WIP and you have to start somewhere. It's the same with OS's, really. For example, KDE still lacks some features that Windows has, but it's catching up real fast. Servo is also catching up real fast. Wait a few years and you'll see.

I'd have to agree if it wasn't for fingerprinting protection and stuff like that, which multiple including me, use. And in Firefox's current state, yeah, probably could happen, depending on the rival of course. However, if Servo eventually becomes good enough, I bet Mozilla will switch from Gecko to Servo at that point, or kill curreny Ff entirely and create another browser, if Mozilla hasn't already killed itself at that point.

Should have probably clarified that I am only referring to enthusiasts or non-luddites who care about security.

explain fraudulent hype? servo has been progressing extremely fast for a browser, It has the potential of being extremely good in many facets, and looking at the progress servo has made very much defends the excitement around it's potential. No one has claimed it's the fastest browser, no one has claimed it's the most secure browser, no one has claimed that it has the largest amount of support for features.

You are painting people who are "hyped" about servo as liars. No one has claimed this, if you believe they had, it's entirely due to your own misinterpretations of statements.

I honestly disagree with this, It doesn't have to replace browsers for everyone, just "for enough people", at the very least I could see a servo based browser replacing firefox, or at least, firefox in it's current state. Chrome i'm not too sure about, Servo does have potential to be a good alternative to many things chrome, electron is a good example.

FWIW I also have a toy browser based on Servo where I've been exploring more browser-centric features (runtime pref config, downloads, history, bookmarks, etc) called Moto. From my experimentation there's some areas in Servo's embedding API that'll need some improvement before they're ready for a general use browser, but I do believe there is a path towards that.

And no, this is not a joke - I really do hate blinking cursors.
well, currently there is no cursor thing at all, Im just used to the blinking, : D

you are mistaken, Verso is a browser oriented front end for servo, Servo's built in shell is more basic then what would be necessary for a browser (Downloads, Settings, etc.) Verso should hopefully address those issues. Though I could see how the grammer could be a bit confusing.
