Phoronix: KDE's Info Center Now Shows Multi-GPU Information, Plasma 6.3 Bringing UI Refinements

KDE developer Nate Graham is out with his usual weekly development recap of all the interesting Plasma desktop changes to have landed over the past week...

Phoronix, Linux Hardware Reviews, Linux hardware benchmarks, Linux server benchmarks, Linux benchmarking, Desktop Linux, Linux performance, Open Source graphics, Linux How To, Ubuntu benchmarks, Ubuntu hardware, Phoronix Test Suite

Always delighted to start my saturday with a new This Week in Plasma, thank you Nate.
    Two questions:
    1. Is there any update on the plasma themeing engine security problem? So that basic use of it doesn't in the process of wanting to change a theme, suddenly need read-write access to parts of /usr. Apparently it makes it difficult for security conscious immutable OS's to use Plasma.
    2. Is there any thought to bringing back a twitter 'share' button? I don't know how valuable such sharing was to kde marketing efforts, but i miss being able to finish reading each weekly edition by sharing it on twitter/etc.

Motherfucker, y'all, those comments about discreet and integrated

No, you're not a "computer guy" if you don't know the difference between the two.

Was your 30 years in IT helping Windows users send their email and format their Excel tables?

The example screenshot shows two integrated GPUs. How can a system have both AMD and Intel HD integrated graphics? I thought integrated graphics always come from the CPU.

Yeah, that was a funny example of "what I call things must be what everyone calls them". Especially when "integrated" is definitely the most commonly used throughout tech media for ages now. Nobody writes "bGPU" or "oGPU" as shorthand for built-in or onboard either. The "d" in dGPU gets written as dedicated instead of discreet a reasonable amount though. But their hearts were in the right place with naming things what (they think) people actually call them.

I assumed it was some kind of shenanigans in QEMU for testing purposes. I.e. you should really only have 1 integrated GPU, but does the about dialogue explode / crash if somehow there are more than one.

Will it be possible to assign one of the GPUs for Kwin in Plasma Settings? I would assign the integrated for DE and discrete for applications/games.

I hope the external screen crashfix will be backported to 6.2.x.

It essentially does this by default already in a hybrid graphics setup with AMD or Intel dGPUs.
