Phoronix: More HDR Preparations Merged In Time For GNOME 47

Following the recent Mutter 47 beta release that also marks the feature freze point for GNOME 47, there still are some High Dynamic Range (HDR) display preparations being merged ahead of this next stable desktop release due out in September...

AFAIK, one of the links in the article to a draft MR is superceded by multiple smaller ones (some of which have been merged, others still work in process - including this one).

Does anyone know if there was any progress in the Variable Refresh Rate support? I was not able to find any new related MRs.

Preparatory MRs keep going in. Canonical is also very busy on Debian Packaging. Both on 46.4 and 47-beta.

would HDR benefit users that don't do professional graphics or gaming?

It would benefit users that have HDR content, no matter the medium, i.e. watching HDR movies.

I hope one day kwin(wayland) and gnome-shell will make a little bastard baby. Kwin is so good compared to mutter, but I kinda prefer gnome-shell over plasmashell. I wish I could combine both...

AFAIK it went in in Gnome 46 as an experimental feature that you can turn on.

As for further work, there was some planned kernel level work needed. i dont know if it has been done yet or not.

Preparation HDR. They're working on a version with added Triple Refresh Rate Ointment to prevent further eye strain.
