GNOME Shell & Mutter See "47.alpha" Releases With Many Big Changes

Phoronix: GNOME Shell & Mutter See "47.alpha" Releases With Many Big Changes

GNOME 47 Alpha is approaching in the coming days and on Sunday evening the "47.alpha" versions were declared for GNOME Shell and the Mutter compositor. This alpha milestone is a big one with seeing enhanced VR headset support, the ability to build Wayland-only desktop environments, GNOME Shell accent color integration, and other Wayland improvements...

I'm still waiting for a Gnome developer or anyone who has tried out the latest Gnome Shell and Mutter with the new dialog windows to tell us if the new spaced-out dialog will consume all vertical space in a low-res display of 768 or 720 and below, or if the options will get chopped off due to height constraints, or if the whole thing scales dynamically.

The old dialog boxes may not be as pleasant looking as the new one but at least the options are all horizontal which completely sidesteps the issue of vertical room.

Well do the browsers than also support this VR Desktop ability? So can you view Youtube SBS Videos over the gnome Desktop with that mode? And as example VLC or mpv?

Hahaha, no, ofcourse not. Why would they think about implementing features all the way through so it actually improves/enhances user experience?

I genuinely wonder if there will ever be a time in history where you don't need at least XWayland for some legacy applications. 🤔

That question boils down to the same point af if you would ask you wonder if there will ever be a time in history where you don't need at least a terminal. I guess the answer is that you do all everydays stuff without a terminal but there is the possibility to do some more stuff if you allow the other enviornment to be there. And I guess there will always be some guy that still uses XMMS and there is birdie, too.

As part of planning toward releasing GNOME 47 on 18 September, it's time to christen the GNOME 47 Alpha (47.alpha) packages. GNOME Shell and Mutter saw their "47.alpha" versions tagged on Sunday evening with many changes in tow.
                  Again with "christen"?
