Plasma Mobile is that thing that really impresses me, it is 13 years old going back to "Plasma Active" and to this day it still looks and feels like a QtQuick UI mockup glued together in a week, beside that it runs like hot garbage on any hardware you throw at it.

I am, despite being a Fedora user, quite happy with Mobian Phosh on my PPP. What I would actually look forward to is a rpm-ostree based phosh distro.

Do we even have good hardware to throw at it yet, or are we still stuck with expenisve toys from Purism or the Pinephone? What's the status of running Android devices with things like libhybris? Is that still a thing? Are there still issues with things like Wireless, Bluetooth and mobile data?

I'm not convinced anyone actually runs these things.

For me, the main thing that would hold me back (hardware aside) is that there is no FOSS equivalent to Apple Pay or Google Pay (assuming NFC even works properly in the first place). This is one of those things where convenience really trumps freedom for me. There is an entire cashless generation of people today. They don't carry coins or notes.

I can live without Netflix working properly. I can't live without mobile payments.

wonder if it would be interesting for people using steamdeck [style] consoles with Bazzite linux...?

i.e. be a option for default desktop for someone using the Lenovo Legion Go edition of Bazzite.

I'd recommend a Oneplus 6 or 6t, they have nearly complete mainline support with only a few out of tree patches. Downside is that distros have to play nice with the android bootloader and the partition style of android. Phosh runs butter smooth on mine. Plasma mobile tho...

Still the same garbage it always was.

I use my PPP as my second phone. Now it is quite decently usable if you know your way around its limits.

Its also a must for me, I see no value in carrying paper or metal chunks with stuff printed on them around with me.
But, I doubt this will happen in the foreseeable future as this all stands and falls with payment processing institutes support.

The only PPP I'm familiar with is for layer-2 networking over dial-up. Been a while since I've used that though...

I personally prefer using my chipcard for contactless payment.

Much less hassle to get it out of its NFC shielded tiny wallet than getting the phone out, activating NFC, paying and deactivating NFC again.

I mean, I can do both, but I would have to forego basic security to make the phone payment as convenient as the card one.
