Phoronix: KDE Is Soliciting Ideas For Their Goals To Pursue Over The Next 2~3 Years

Back in 2022 the KDE project laid out new goals to improve accessibility, develop more environmentally sustainable software, and automate more processes for easing the development of KDE. These overarching KDE Goals are refined every 2~3 years and they are now soliciting ideas from the community for what they should focus on ahead...

Put all single/rare use settings behind an advanced toggle. So it's not overwhelming when you're trying to find common settings.

Fix the complexity that is taskbar customisation. It feels wooden also and holds back the UI.

Actually everything needs overhauling. A little bit closer to Gnome, but with a taskbar and the features.

I have not tried Plasma 6 yet. (so its said)

Is the Kmenu/Start Menu as easy to drag and drop and configure and add complex folder structures and remove items and add labels and add to "favorites" as it is on Windows?

I just tried hold-left-clicking on a browser icon in the "Internet" folder, attempting to move it into the "settings" folder. It didn't work. No, that's not because that's where the browser shortcut belongs or because that where I actually want it to be located. It was a test of the K start menu.

The menu failed this simple ease-of-use test.

Exactly, the first thing phoronix should hide is the text alignment button.

I think KDE is awesome with lots of features and configurations, but they are also awesome at hiding it.
Plasma needs a guide in the welcome center explaining some of the features to the user.

              That's a really good idea.

                  So... use Cinnamon.
I use KDE because it isn't like GNOME. I don't hate GNOME and I don't think they need to change their ways, because they have a purpose in their design. So does KDE. If you don't like it, don't use it. What's the point in having different UIs if they're all kinda the same?

This reminds me of people who emigrate to another country/state and expect that country to behave like their old one. If you liked how things used to be so much then why'd you leave? Don't tell other people to change just because you can't.

Lower resource usage. Fix bugs. Generally polish.

Work on portability. Make it work perfectly on BSDs, Windows/ReactOS, MacOS, Haiku and so on.

And ensure it works perfectly on RISC-V, the most important ISA going forward.
