Any news concerning jxl? It has been supported in Nightly for a while already and Librewolf has enabled it by default. Actually, why not use system libraries for jxl (libjxl) now that it has wide support?

no news, and I doubt we will see any news anytime soon which is a shame because jxl on waterfox is in a really good state. but despite mozilla claiming neutrality for it, they dont seem to be in any rush to even consider merging the PRs in the tracker for it, let alone enabling it on stable builds
Considering Chrome recently ripped out their JPEG-XL code I suspect it's dead on the web for all practical purposes, whatever its virtues.
I doubt it, it's just a matter of time since jpegxl adoption, though stinted, still seems to be on the rise, I see more and more apps adding support. I would like to see a true community project add support. maybe to servo, but that needs image-rs integration, which I have wanted to try and tackle, but have been procrastinating xD
