You could say the same thing about any component. For example, "Ahh, yes. nVidia's GPU driver for windows. The tool that runs nothing without Windows DLLs."

The Wine devs are primarily concerned with having their default configuration be correct, in the formal sense, while Crossover, Proton, and POL are concerned with extending Wine in ways that aren't correct, but break some applications to make others work... Similar to non-cycle-accurate emulators like ZSNES.

Thus, Wine devs very much do see their work as component development at this point in the process.

There turns out to be 3000+ applications that work under Wine without issue. Platinum status is not granted if you need to install anything other than stock wine to use the application. Yes installing dxvk because the program need a performance boost would equal Gold not Platinum . So that it absolutely not that nothing works. I could be nothing works that you want ti run.

Crossover, Proton and PlayonLinux are willing to do actions that are not technically correct to get items to work. Lot of the actions Proton and PlayonLinux do you find in wine appdb as directions to perform manually with wine to have silver and gold rated applications work.

When some program has issue with proton or playonlinux to diagnose what the heck has gone wrong at times it return to wine and perform all the steps manually.

The answer is as easy as to understand you need breath air to live as a human, you only do it when you realize you have to do it (some infants won't because can you blame an infant to not understand the science to live as a human?).

Point being, the projects Turbine mentions are third-party projects/applications that bridges the end-user to utilize and use Wine deviations (or mainline Wine) that heavily depends on the Wine project continued support/development/community. The whole chain is important for progress (as it is now) but Turbine describes thy perspective in the end-users perspective (the end product) and not the massive work that made it happened between multiple projects.

Cool story broski. I run more than 100 apps regularly with plain Wine.

God I'm so sick of tards who think the world revolves around their video games, Microsoft Office or Adobe crap.

The even more funny thing is that a lot of games work with plain wine just fine, too.
