Dont worry, you will be on the CSD bandwagon soon

They will become a natural fit when XFCE's CSD implementation is finalised.

sad they only work in gnome
? They will work everywhere. The only difference is that these will have had some intention to fit into gnome design paradigms.

I know Gnome apps devs and Gnome devs are not always overlapping, but in my opinion some apps (Boxes, Web/Epiphany, Maps, Photos, Evince, and others) are a total waste of resources only used by a negligible handful of users (at least 3 much better alternatives exist for each of those).
        What exactly are the alternatives?

Redirecting those resources would be very useful to help with the burden of maintenance of configuration options on Gnome itself. And Gnome desperately needs the flexibility, as highlighted by the vast majority of comments here and there.
Good luck telling people what to do in their free time! (.. or, if sponsored, a company how they should allocate THEIR resources).

You can't expect a few volunteers to make their apps cross platform. Porting to the Fisher-Price tablet already took years. Linux is an entirely different beast.

I think we are talking past each other.

I read Aryma's post as suggesting thee apps only worked on gnome and not on linux.

My response was they are linux apps.

Your response... I dont know what you mean by cross platform in this context.

I suspect close to 100% of gnome usage is outside the tablet form factor.

Gnome is unbeatable on laptops (it is the only time I have not hated a trackpad. I normally hate them with a passion) and generally a pleasure to use on large, especially ultrawide monitors.

I think Allan Day showed his setup somewhere recently, and it was a large ultrawide monitor but the keyboard also had a trackpad. It looked glorioous.

              "Volunteers". Hahaha.
Thanks for the good one, gets me in a good mood from early on.

Plus, I explicitly mentioned both Gnome and Gnome apps devs don't necessarily overlap. I don't understand why you would try to invalidate what I said by highlighting... the same as what I said!

Ok, glad I could make you laugh. 😊.
Now if we could just all figure out why you are laughing? I take it to mean that you don't agree with Bernard's blog post that I linked to? If so, what specifically is it that you take issue with? Perhaps you're suggesting that Gnome is in fact like a software corporation after all and can therefore tell people where to put their resources? Or do you claim that most developers of Gnome apps are paid for working on the app? That is obviously not true. So what is exactly your point?

EDIT: Ok, I see now that you updated your post after my initial reply. My original post is questioning your belief that resources within the Gnome community can be redirected to work on specific Gnome apps or directed to work on specific features within Gnome apps. Like a software company. However, as we now, the vast majority of gnome app developers are in fact volunteers. Do you dispute this fact? Or in other words, what specifically do you take issue with in Bernard's post?

I'm actually using some GNOME applications on KDE because I prefer them over Qt counterparts. One example is GNOME Disk utility which is simpler to use than KDE Partition Manager.

Acutally on GNOME I also prefer some Qt applications over GTK counterparts.

Some prefer Okular even when running Gnome.

When I use a new distro or reinstall, and come across a PDF, I'm wondering what the heck is that horrible PDF viewer. Then I remember it's Evince and uninstall the hell out of it. Nowadays it doesn't even have + - buttons for zooming (you need one more click to get into the zoom percentage menu), you can only rotate clockwise (6 hits necessary for a counterclockwise 90% rotation, as the submenu annoyingly disappear every time you rotate 90% clockwise... instead of two for most other viewers), etc...
They manage to make it worse every time. It's become an utter joke.

Some years ago I used to install Acrobat Reader (before it ditched Linux support).
And these days I'm using either Foxit Reader (the best of the bunch but no scaling support), qpfdview (doesn't look pretty but is functional at least) or ePDFview (last release was 10 years ago and yet it's more functional than evince!).

Even Firefox or Edge integrated viewer do a better job.
