KDE Akademy 2021 Video Streams As Developers Discuss Wayland, Frameworks 6, Qt
Unfortunately the setting does not have any effect in 89 on Linux/Wayland. It is already available, but only works on Win/MacOS. Only from 90 on it actually does something - and only in 91/nightly it seems to work reliably (it's still very new code so experiences may vary).
Ah, that would explain the stability.
At least Firefox works well under Wayland so far. I’ll see what happens when I’m on 90.
I've been using it on Ubuntu 21.04 with Firefox 89.0.1 on a system with Radeon 6800 graphics, and a second one with Intel Broadwell graphics, and it's been fantastic. No stability issues whatsoever.

Really liked the Wayland for QT Developers talk (~2:58:00).
...tested via `gfx.webrender.compositor.force-enabled` in `about:config` - you'll most likely want to run FF nightly and a very recent compositor though.

First KDE comes strong against Qt’s commercial-only strategy. Forks and “legal actions” are on the table. Then KDE suddenly do their own CLA-only patchset. Then KDE also signs up for a shared conference with Qt.
Why?
Because you live in different reality from the rest of us, so stop trying to apply your "logic" to the rest of us.

In 3:00:20 David shortly talks about a new experimental Firefox Wayland backend that defers composting work to the Wayland compositor instead of having an internal one that just sends the final result (what most apps/toolkits on X11/Wayland normally do so far). If anyone is interested in that work: it can be followed in https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1617498 and tested via `gfx.webrender.compositor.force-enabled` in `about:config` - you'll most likely want to run FF nightly and a very recent compositor though.
This work allows the FF Wayland to catch up with the CoreAnimation/DirectComposition ones on other OSs - and it's something that's unfortunately not possible on X11 due to missing atomicity in many areas.
