With Microsoft having Mono (a .NET Framework implementation), .NET Core, .NET 5 and PowerShell on Linux, it would be amazing if Microsoft were to contribute to the Wine project.

And with .NET 6 and MAUI if Microsoft were to port all their UWP applications to Linux.

I think MS should port their dx stack to a full mesa backend. Nobody knows the quirks there better then the original creator.

That would be something. Probably about as likely as the letter A ever becoming the letter E

I don't know, now there is VS Code, PowerShell, .NET Core, Mono, Edge, Skype, Teams, etc on Linux. There is WSL on Windows. Microsoft open sourced their Windows 10 calculator app. Microsoft is contributing to the Linux kernel. Microsoft contributed Direct3D 12 to Mesa. Microsoft's new MAUI widget toolkit for .NET 6 is cross-platform so you can write desktop applications that runs on Windows, Mac and Linux.

c# is a programming language, its crossplatformness is beneficial to ms. wine is windows replacement, why would ms shoot itself?

which is glorified text editor. there's no real visual studio on linux, see pattern?

only to parts which help them sell it on azure(which is more than novideo does, i'll grant ms that)

Wine isn't a Windows replacement. Just like WSL is not a Linux replacement. Wine is making things cross-platform too.

No, VS Code is not a glorified editor, it is an IDE. It got extensions, code completion, Language Server Protocol (LSP), debugging, etc. Also VS Code is hugely popular. Yeah, real Visual Studio isn't available, maybe because its not easy to port to Linux.

Since there is no money in the calculator, I hope they open source other applications there are no money in either, such as Notepad, Paint, Wordpad, and Windows 10 UWP apps such as Camera, Contacts, Mail, Groove Music, etc.
