    Hopefully something similar to TigerVNC XDMCP mode will be implemented natively for Wayland someday. But anyway, I grateful for proper XDMCP support in gdm3, because with SDDM and LightDM it doesn't work.

      Actually main motivation for writing this was for people wanting to run a desktop on headless systems like servers, where they connect remotely to a desktop to run diagnosis etc.

        That's indeed a great idea. As it's on demand, it wouldn't take system resources unless it's being used. Brilliant.

          Actually it's a very old idea. 30 years ago it was normal to have like 4 X clients to a server using XDMCP. And even now I regularly ssh -X to our server to run synaptics.

          So, yes brilliant - and about time. Now if Kde would have something similar, that would be even more brilliant.

            It could bring session-based remote desktops, something similar to RDP, a thing more similar to Terminal servers where you could sign-in and connect to a session and not just use an unlocked and logged-in screen with VNC (And this in GNOME still has many issues).

              SMP exists since the 60s and 64-bit computing since the 70s. The point is the implementation.

                  Hopefully kwin does something similar. It'd allow the virtual desktops feature to actually switch single displays instead of affecting both right?

                  Additionally it's a neat feature for VM stuff using VFIO where the GPU passthrough doesn't require dummy plugs (in display outputs to trigger them as if connected to a display), which are a bit limited in resolution and refresh rate support last I tried. Getting that over PipeWire to the host system would be sweet

                    WayVNC already works nicely, but you need sway or other wlroots WM.
