Phoronix: GNOME Shell Merges Its New Horizontal Workspaces

As part of work on GNOME 40, the GNOME Shell is seeing some big refinements like shifting of its workspaces to be horizontally laid out, which has now been merged...

I've already answered that. And I don't care enough about your bigoted fanboyism to waste time with you again.

Now, what can be noted from this merge is that they didn't listen once again to all the complaints about those horizontal workspaces. And we've seen a crapton of those.

I don't use Activities overview, I'm not concerned by this (it's important to emphasize that it doesn't come from my little personal workflow), so I couldn't care less personally, but nonetheless once again they've buried their head in the sand to reach their bunker down below so as to completely ignore the feedback users have written everywhere.
    Classic Gnome devs behavior.

I think I would like to boot straight into the session and see the desktop, not into the window picker.

As for the app grid, it takes me away from what I am currently doing, I would much rather have a overlay or menu, which is why I use the ArcMenu extension for GNOME.

How do horizontal activities mesh with horizontal multi-monitors?

Ah. Annoyed that they didn't call you? Because you are the specialist of course. And, as a good open source citizen, you participated in their UX studies of course. Or better, you even signed up for being a contributor so you can have more influence in Gnome's direction. Right?

This is free software. If you don't like it then move on.

And no, to be clear, I don't use Gnome but something else. But I do appreciate the open source landscape with all it's free options and different POV's.

It's funny how people can't understand properly what others wrote.
It's not rocket science to be able to understand what you read.

Well, actually, it's not what I want as I don't use it. 1.
And nowhere have I written that it is a majority of opinions. I've said there's a crapton of negative feedback about thesehorizontal workspaces and Gnome have disregarded that feedback entirely (no options to change that default behavior). 2.

It's what I actually wrote and it's very different from what you understood. I wouldn't adventure myself on mentioning some twisted sense of reality if I were you as you completely twisted my words.

Then again. I DON'T USE Activities Overview. Ever. Whether they call me or not is completely irrelevant. Man, why did I specify it if nobody is able to read properly?

I'm talking about what has been written here and on many other different places by a wide variety of people about the inconvenience of these horizontal workspaces for them. You can't not see it unless you're completely blinkered by your own little workflow or a yes man fanboy. I'm not, I care about other users and their workflow. I want as many people as possible to be happy when using something. Not just me. It implies listening to other users feedback if it's a huge popular demand.
Sometimes, it really seems Gnome lovers (not you apparently) are narcissists just thinking their way is the only way. Here is some news, some people are more open-minded.

                    Haha! So true.

                    From your link:
                    What users want

The problems I’ll talk about are not my invention, but confirmed by GNOME user surveys, which show the most important issues according to the users:
                    1. Lack of configuration options
                    2. Developers don’t listen to users
                    3. Bring back traditional interface
                    4. Improve Nautilus
                    5. Better Multi-Monitor Support
I'll skip 3 as there's a Gnome Classic session and users have migrated massively to Mate, Cinnamon, XFCE for a more traditional paradigm. Maybe even to KDE.
But the rest is still spot on 8 years later. And I wasn't even using it at the time (Gnome 2 until 2011 then Unity then Gnome 3 back in 2017), but I'm glad as early as 2013 someone pointed the top 2 problems of Gnome that up to this day have been dividing its userbase so much (as far as to dumping Gnome entirely) and that I've been pointing out for a while now.

Still very relevant with regard to the content of this news. Thanks for bringing it up.
