Why do you refuse to use name which developers use to name their software? There won't be such thing like "KDE 6".

Aside from that Plasma Wayland now is working pretty good. Yeah, still has bugs and can crash but overall stability is much better than it was few versions ago. In most cases it should work fine. Also drag'n'drop seems to work better on Plasma Wayland than on GNOME Wayland. Even GTK apps with Wayland backend are working fine (with or without header bar) while few versions ago they were forced to use X11 backend because with Wayland backend they were working bad. After trying Plasma Wayland after some time, I'am really surprised how much work they put to make things work better and it's still not finished so we can expect more improvements in incoming versions.

Looking back, there's KDE 1, KDE 2, KDE 3, KDE 4, Plasma 4, and Plasma 5. KDE 5 might not be the actual, official name of the desktop, but it makes sense why people call it that. The K Desktop Environment might have given every subproject its own name and we're supposed to refer to each little subproject by that name...you know, KDE Applications, KDE Frameworks, Plasma...or we can just wrap it all under the name KDE 5 when discussing it because we all know what we're all talking about.

That's what happens if someone writes "Plasma 5". But KDE also develops separate products like Krita, digiKam, KDEnlive, etc.

As Apple, Google, etc. develop different software. Someone can say "Google 80" and think we all know he's talking about Chrome 80.

          1) Because the project had been known for decades as KDE. Decades. It still uses that name in many places and files. Just because its developers wanted to decouple their shell (Plasma) from the apps (KDE applications) and the libraries (kde frameworks) does not mean i will play their game. It is just KDE, period. It is simple, short, and everyone understands it perfectly.

          2) I disagree, for me (AMD with latest MESA) Wayland on KDE still crashes frequently out of the blue without reason.

Again. It's like 10 years since KDE is a team of developers. It's like saying "Microsoft 11 or even 12" instead of "Windows 11 or even 12".
KDE is not a company. Just like GNOME is not a company. KDE is a desktop environment. Just because it has some desktop applications does not mean it is a company. GNOME has office applications, design applications etc too, you know...

And it is not like ANYONE uses KDE apps and frameworks seperately from Plasma, so why decouple them? Do you use Konqueror, Ark, or Kmail with GNOME? Seriously, outside of 1-2 apps everyone uses the apps that integrate well with his desktop environment, GNOME users use mainly GNOME utilities and KDE users use mainly KDE utilities.... They are not separate....

No, it's like calling it the Windows Number Desktop instead of Aero Vista, Aero 7, Metro 8.

So the Windows 7 desktop...No, you call it Aero and Explorer on Windows 7.

So the Gnome 3 desktop....No, it's Mutter and G.N.O.M.E. Shell.

So the KDE 5 desktop....No, No, it's Plasma 5, KDE Frameworks, and KDE Applications, oh my.

              There's regular people....and there's "that guy"

KDE is people that write software :-) (and perform other tasks) :-) . That software can be libraries (like KDE Frameworks), programs, environments, etc.

Anyone can see the description in http://kde.org/community/whatiskde/

Sure, no one uses KDE applications separately from Plasma. You should provably notify the KDE developers so they can stop wasting time on Windows, Android and MacOS ports of several applications.

And obviously nobody would consider to uses applications like Krita, Kate, Skrooge, KMyMoney, K3b, KTorrent, digiKam, Marble, LabPlot, KStars, GCompris, Cantor, KEXI, Tellico etc outside Plasma.

It is very rare that people use KDE applications outside of KDE Desktop. This is the reality of it. The vast majority of KDE apps are only used in a Plasma interface. Just because you can point out a few outliers (and not all of those you listed are actually seeing any usage outside Plasma) it does not mean that the rule is not the one i stated.

As Morty says, there are a lot of programs that KDE develops that are not Plasma, each one with its release dates, names, features, etc.
