    Unfortunately, GSoC (not sure about Outreachy but LO never participated there) is paying students to code, not design (there was a question to Google about this for a different project and the answer was a no).
    OTOH making templates is a great thing to contribute for people that don't know how to code and I'm surprised how little people attempted that considering how many times I heard "I want to contribute but I'm not a programmer".

    Actually, compatibility is pretty varied.
    I had once compared LibreOffice, OnlyOffice, and WPS Office, and I found that OnlyOffice had the best compatibility with MS Office files that only used Latin characters, however with RTL languages, LibreOffice managed the best.
