Phoronix: Wine-Staging 4.3 Sees More Work Upstreamed While Adding In A Number Of New Patches

Building off the exciting Wine 4.3 release that brought the FAudio implementation, the Wine-Staging crew has outed their newest development release. Wine-Staging 4.3 has upstreamed a number of their patches into Wine while introducing some new work too and then re-basing their existing nearly 800 patches...

You kind of forgot to mention wine-staging REVERTING the FAudio implementation...

Kind of an odd decision tho, as "staging" tends to be the other way around... ie. main wine is "distro safe", while staging contains requirements sometimes going for "experimental" when it comes to libraries and stuff.
Not the first time tho, as libvkd3d is not included in most distro's either, but i cant say ive seen any reverts of that... But then again, everyone needs sound, and so far i only know of World of Warcraft working with vkd3d and D3D12.

That said, i have put up a PPA for ubuntu for libfaudio and updated SDL2-2.0.9 for bionic/cosmic.

            Need to patch staging with:
            Code:
            patchinstall.sh DESTDIR="wine-4.3/" --all -W xaudio2-revert -W xaudio2_CommitChanges -W xaudio2_7-WMA_support -W xaudio2_7-CreateFX-FXEcho
to NOT remove the wine faudio patches. Ofc requires libfaudio-dev to actually compile this.

Well, FAudio is making its way into Fedora 29, so this should not be an issue there. Wine-Staging assumes that new dependencies are impossible to add to distros, which is really unfortunate...

That sucks, I was hoping to get sound improvements with the next update…

Oh boy just use the FAudio DLLs with a simple override and forget this distro repository centralized garbage piece of shit system common in Linux. What the hell guys, how many times must it fuck you over before you realize how shit it is?

In Windows you have Vulkan since Win 7 (more than a decade) and it's still extremely popular. You can't even get it for a 5 year old distro on Linux without PPA or compiling it yourself, and people say "lol wut go upgrade wtf man!!!!!". Pathetic.

Many thanks for your ppa, bionic update sdl (runtime-dev) without troubles and faudio install (runtime-dev) too
