I hope that in the future the open dialog will have a file preview feature when you right click on a file like images.
This is a very useful feature in Windows (Windows 7) that helps you not to upload somewhere the wrong picture.
Looking just at the file name or thumbnail sometimes is not enough and Right click -> Preview is the best option.

This is already the case in openSUSE, the dialog box is the native KDE.

And the rest is *not*. Always the filedialog but the rest remains the old cluncky default widgetset, where GNOME and KDE harrass each others who becomes the dominating widgetset.

Which one portal package is required, GTK or KDE one?

KDE, GTK one is for GNOME. BTW this way you also can also have native file dialogs in other GTK3 apps too. Not in all of them though, and the ones who support portals often are buggy in KDE (not sure if their problem or KDE's implementation of portals, or combination of both).

Ah nice, the old one was not very good, confusing and ugly.

True but only via out-of-tree patches by openSUSE. This news is about standard Firefox as distributed by Mozilla.

The KDE File Picker already has such a feature.

Aren't thumbmails and filenames enough to distinguish the files?
