The billion dollar Redhat disagrees with you.

IMHO, RedHat, Canonical and Suse are indeed open-source success stories but compared to their competitors (VMWare, IBM, Oracle etc.) in yearly revenue aren't doing that amazing. My point is, that they probably would have had a much higher revenue if they weren't doing open source. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for what they are doing and it's commendable that they are managing to survive despite capitalism.
