    Always lagging... What about designing a common driver API for both BSD and Linux plus dual/licensing drivers or using MPL 2.0 or whatever? This could benefit many open source and alternative operating systems.

      Most drivers are already permissively licensed, using MIT and the like

        Oh, nice. So why do they lag behind? What's the issue for that relatively slow updating of drivers?

          The fact that they are written to internal Linux APIs is one thing. Takes a while to refactor them in many cases. I'm thinking of things like KMS, PRIME etc. Also, I would not say most in-tree drivers are permissively licenced, although a lot are - happy to be proven wrong of course, not an expert by any means.
