    Phoronix: Benchmarking Debian GNU/Hurd 2015 vs. GNU/Linux

Since the release of Debian GNU/Hurd 2015 and GNU Hurd 0.6 this year, I've been meaning to run some new performance benchmarks considering my previous Hurd benchmarks were last done in 2011.

Well, Hurd needs a couple hundred people to coordinate for a few years. But that won't happen without a corporation to organize it and to fund it.

HURD is not very competitive with Linux.

                  Really?
Coreutils? Bash? CLisp (A Common Lisp implementation)? Guilde (A Scheme implementation)? R? GCC? Emacs?

Everything from GNU is open source, which means project that have been taken on and used by scores of users and developers have thrived while some others simply didn't made it. Hurd is simply GNU own kernel, but Linux took up the place. And don't bash on GNU, in the 80-90s they played a very important role and without them I don't think we'd have all that Linux ecosystem.
