      Next GIMP version (2.8) wil not. The one after that again (3.0) will. This because GTK+ API is exposed in the GIMP API, and not breaking that promise without going to 3.0.

        GIMP 2.8 is the current version; it was released more than two years ago. Though you are correct that they don't plan to use GTK3 in the next version (2.10).

          It is because they promise backward compatibility with plugins in minor releases. So the gtk3 switch is with the 3.0 release of gimp. So the big gegl switch is holding back the gtk3 switch.
