Because GNU/Linux is a mess on the Desktop and the NT System is a bad thing. And they dont make just another Windows they build a FOSS Windows.

How could it be an open project if you need to pay to become beta-tester? This is not the way open-source works.

Linux is making huge progress on the desktop front. Wayland is comming as well as much better CS drivers independent of kernel version.
Record amount of AAA titles being ported and in the works for Linux.
Game engines are flocking to OGL as well.
Currently using Mint 16 Mate. Perfect stability, blazing fast. easy to use, all the amenities.
Yup Linux desktop is a mess

Running Windows XP/7 in Workstation will always be better than ReactOS. Especially since VMware made the GFX in Workstation excellent.

I think what they're implying is if you pay, you get early access to it. Just because something is open source it doesn't mean you have access to every new byte that is changed as soon as it happens.

Not a fan of cloud anything. Cloud based OS's make me want to hide under a rock with a laptop using Windows 95, waiting for the cloud appocolapse to end.

There is zero progress. The fragmentation of the Desktops is progressing well. Everyone has its own APIs (if APIs for an integration exist.) If you want to write a program thats nice integrated in the Desktop, you has todo it for each Desktop and Distribution again.

                A GUI-Application is not only a window.

Thats nice but its not a real benefit.

Accept that there are problems is the first step.

20 Years ago it was the same with Unix. And where is now Unix?

Have any suggestions for an OS that suits desktops better? Windows sure isn't on that list, and neither is the walled garden that is Mac OSX.
