    FreeBSD is not efficient.
UFS is as slow as the most obese man in the world climbing Mt Everest.
ZFS is FAR SLOWER then BTRFS.

If Sony wanted lean, efficient and great responsiveness, they'd when with Linux not BSD cause it's the opposite of those things.

Sony wanted to build a new proprietary product without much work and so they chose BSD for it's proprietary friendly BSD license.

This is why so many supporters of free and open source like OxBADCODE and myself don't approve of BSD.
    Welcome back, 'kraftman'.

libgcm is preferred due to being able to send over a raw command buffer to the GPU, which is great for performance. Hellish to code though, so you typically see a mix of libgcm/PSGL. Most libgcm usage is probably within the game engine, rather then the games graphical backend.

There no really need for Direct3D, MS marketing made people think that is something that makes things better and everything using it.... where only Windows and Xbox using it
D3D is a better API then OGL is. There's a reason why people stopped using OGL after all...

The license says "Do whatever you want with this. You don't have to give back, or even allow the original code base to run on your hardware." If you find the result unsatisfactory, it may be time to re-evaluate your stance on license.

The operating system at the heart of Sony's PlayStation 4 is FreeBSD 9.0...

BSD/Unix simply ROCKS, forever !!!, and trust me, Sony knows their hardware, and can BUILD their hardware much better than Microsoft ever could.

Yeah, everyone admits it - BSD is simply ROCKS, a COLLECTION OF BRICKS, Sony took them and used for free to build their next closed source project, plainly cutting some costs, no favor returns per se. Carry on.

oh, you mean like Linux on Android ended up being so "FREE" and OpenSource ???!!! -LoL.
Or, is it that Android is simply the most "CLOSED" OpoenSource project we have ever seen ?

Just like how Linux device manufacturers in China withhold GPL source code without any legal consequences in that country.
