You took the unreliablest source you could find. That the author of these blog is not only a troll but also a blatant liar can be seen alone in his first post on that blog, where he states that he uses gNewSense on all his machines for 8 years now, which actually is 2 years longer than the project even exists.

So because it doesn't force you to keep things open means its pro-proprietary? What's to stop someone from taking sommat BSD licensed and re-licensing it under GPL? Would that mean it's pro-freedom? Besides, as it says in the very first sentance of your link: "Many free and open source aware people and advocates including the FSF believe software under the BSD or BSD-like ISC licenses are free and open software."

Difference is, imho, that the BSD license counts on you to be friendly enough to share, whereas the GPL forces you to share (though that doesn't stop GPL violations...)

That said, were I ever to create sommat (and I am planning on learning to code) I would license it under the GPL.
