it used to be that a secure operating system was a specially designed thing. nowadays all you have to do is write your operating system in rust, and you're automatically secure.

No, you still have to design with security in mind if you want to be secure, Rust won't stop you from implementing a fundamentally insecure design. To use construction analogy, Rust will make you use most modern high-tech materials, it won't stop you from building a shack out of them.

Rust helps solve a large section of bugs that are often related to security issues... but it doesn't make you a perfect programmer. You can still write bugs in Rust, and those bugs can still be security nightmares. You can write a backend to a website that stores user's passwords in plaintext and Rust won't stop that.

The "Getting a first impression" section of the documentation link is excellent. It tells you how to explore Genode/Sculpt OS after booting it from USB and describes what happens. E.g. you download, install, and configure features by adding new nodes to a graph of your computer's current running resources. Interesting! Other innovative operating systems should have such a "How to explore" guide, It piqued my interest much more than a few screenshots.

(And the documentation must be written in Rust, because it didn't crash when I read it.)
