This looks like a great OS for Raspberry Pi 5. I’ll try once I have some more time.

Haiku is my favourite non-Linux alternative OS. I have a mini PC I main Haiku on.

Imagine if Valve went with Haiku instead of Linux….hmm.

Too bad thier community has become toxic like the gnome developers... you can't have ideas that differ or even state that you prefer how BeOS did things relative to how things are now.

It used to be the developers mostly stayed on in the mailing lists or would have developer specific forum topics... but now... no tolerance. I guess that is how bad thing are these days. How many people have they ran of by now at least half dozen publicly, people who were appreciated in the community and played a role.

I've read that Haiku is a single-user OS. Does this mean that every process runs with administrative privileges? Also, how's the port of the Linux DRM subsystem to Haiku going?

AFAIK most things still run as baron which is roughly equivalent to root...but some things can already run as alternate users for security reasons but the GUI not yet. It does not have multi user GUI but 95% of what is needed is there if anyone wanted to implement it for real it would require some development though. I think it could be done without interfering the power user goals BeOS was aiming for.

They have implemented immutable packages to mitigate some security risks. Not the direction I'd expect for a power user OS and I wish it were optional but it is a valid direction I think from the security standpoint.

Eh. I've spent a decent amount of time on their forums. The devs who got "run off" were by and large drama queens who wanted everything done their way (the "correct" way even though they can't explain why it's better), can't follow the project's standard code formatting, threatening the project leads to get their way, etc. I've seen it all really. Now, I'm sure there are times when devs are given the run around, get tired, and leave but that's not the majority.

If Haiku got 10% of the money that goes into Linux, it would have been a much better desktop OS than Linux is.

Have you got any examples? Like forums threads?
