considering they not only need to make a working operating system with application support, but also need to be 1:1 compatible with one of the more complex kernels without accsess to any source code, I would say it's been progressing quite nicely

More recently, I've been a little worried about the Russia connection. Wikipedia claims it's received no support by the Russian government up to 2019. What about since then?
why be worried about russian connection?, are you also worried about the american connections or the chinese ones? what about korean ones? ofc russia would want to distance themsleves from windows as much as possible, I think any government that doesn't try to do so is idiotic

Just let go of this time and money sink project, it's utterly useless, sorry. Linux + Wine will work way better, really, there's just no point in devoting any resources to ReactOS at this point.

Most definitely always worried about the Chinese connection given their track record with backdoors.

With Russia being one of the main state sponsors of cyber criminals, yes it worries me. Not only that, but they're also one of the more overtly oppressive regimes in the world, today. Open dissent will straight-up land you in jail, and don't think that level of control and paranoia doesn't also extend online. Finally, there's a thin degree of separation between Russia's hot war and the West. Russia has repeatedly demonstrated its willingness to "play dirty". We expose ourselves to their wrath at our own folly.

And yes, I'm also not running any OS from China. I don't buy networking gear made there, either.

That much is understandable. That doesn't nullify my other concerns.

There are plenty of European countries that probably frown on Windows, for its American HQ. That doesn't mean I wouldn't run an OS developed there. You can't pretend Russia really isn't a special case.

Note: I'm specifically concerned about the Russian State. I've known many born in the USSR or Russia, all of whom seem like good people. Some are even among my friends.

I wish that ReactOS could finally start the undertaking of being compatible with Windows drivers.

Thumbs up for ReactOS , but I would *really* like for any new version to be upgradeable instead of having to reinstall the darn thing. That prevents adoption the way I see it.

I wouldn't be majorly concerned about any of that, reactOS in the end is still an open source piece of software, even if there was some sketchy stuff, it's not like reactOS has zero community, it wouldnt fly for long

I think its silly too, but to be fair, I feel like that feature isn't important quite yet when the filesystem is still FAT and the OS can't even run for an hour without crashing.

It is in alpha/pre-alpha stage. Nobody shall think of any "adoption". Only people who are interested in bug-testing or join in the development should install ReactOS.

The Russians I know personally will tell you this is complete bullshit.

Anyone who claims to be a "dissident" fearing for his or her life in their country is damn near always a shady person who ran afoul of the law in the first place. How many Chinese "dissidents" have we seen popping up in the US to rag on China, only to later be arrested by US police for felonies or fraud that they were already being prosecuted in China for?
