Phoronix: NVIDIA Lands X.Org Server Support For PRIME Render Offload On FreeBSD

It's not too often I get to talk about major FreeBSD graphics driver improvements, but with the latest X.Org Server Git code paired with the recent NVIDIA proprietary graphics driver there is now support for PRIME render offload should you be using a multi-GPU setup on this BSD...

        End users need Wayland support.

FreeBSD does have Wayland support. But just like Linux there isn't enough choices for a decent compositor to replace many peoples favorite WM workflow yet (or ever?).

But doesn't Nvidia hate open source?

This chapter describes how to install and configure Wayland and compositors on FreeBSD, which provides a graphical user environment

The current NVidia driver should work with most wl-roots compositors, but it may be a little unstable and not support all features at this time.
So pretty much on par with the experience on Linux.

Hah, hardly. I still think that X11 is going to win. FreeBSD doesn't need to rush getting this "mere distraction" Wayland stuff working.

Or at the very least, the Wayland ecosystem will actually have some decent compositors by the time it is working.

                    Don't settle for mediocracy
