  • APFS or MacOS Extended for HDD?

Hello. I've been reading that for previous system releases was best to format an external hard drive in MacOS Extended instead of APFS, with Monterey release, is this still true?

Yep, it's true. MacOS Extended (HFS) performs much better than APFS on a hard disk.
APFS is more optimized for solid-state drives, which means it doesn't care about fragmentation (and therefore is slower on HDD).

Ok thanks, I've read that APFS is more reliable and I thought this could apply to mechanical disks too and make them "lasting more" but I guess it's not the case.
