I wouldn't say that all the *BSDs lag behind Linux considerably graphics driver wise. OpenBSD and FreeBSD support icelake graphics for example and all but the newest AMD graphics. DragonflyBSD and NetBSD just have much smaller teams so lag a bit behind the two bigger *BSD projects.

FreeBSD amdgpu driver is at Linux 5.11 or 5.13 (cant remember precisely).

4.19 should be enough for Vega graphics tho (be it discrete or igpu).
