It needs real hardware support, period. Not just SATA3 and USB3. As it is I haven't been able to boot on real hardware 10 year ago, 5 years ago and a year ago even if hardware I picked is around 8 y.o. already.

And exactly what do your political rantings and ravings contribute to the technical aspects of this discussion? This IS supposed to be a technical site after all, and not a soap-box for mouth-breathing, political-activist (but I repeat myself) bobble-heads.

Note to Michael Larabel: you need to make a very hard decision regarding allowing crap like this to drag your site down, versus simply garnering mouse-clicks.

I know I was a bit harsh there, but I don't really get to see the usefulness of that project. Progress is also ultra-slow there.

With the recent source code leak, your statement might be true where legality is required. But you could tinker around with the "real thing" instead of using its imitation if it is not nowadays. But the ReactOS community could also profit from that leak to accelerate their own development (to get a better understanding of the Windows internals, for legal reasons they shouldn't copy code).

Since we're off on a tangent, I just find it funny how many people, Americans, blurt the world socialist around like it's a dirty word without even realizing that America is a democratic socialist country. We have elected officials that tax us to provide services for the betterment of society. Whether the socialist country elects Gandhi or Hitler is another matter.

When people blurt out "socialist" like that it lets us know they lack skills like the ability to read a dictionary and critical thinking. "I"m stupid, you should ignore me" is about all it contributes to the discussion.

There are days I'd like to not have to read four pages of pal666 calling everyone a moron.

Always screaming to shut down others eh? Can't take one of the developers you worship being called out for some stupidity they keep pushing despite decades of being wrong?

Tannenbaum was wrong aobut Linux for the same reasons he is wrong about politics and that is why it's relevant, .... he's a toxic academic.

The fact is Tannenbaum and his OS are a failure and have been for 30 years.... even his attempt to reinvent Minix 3 as an actual open source OS is pretty much a failure, though not quite as bad as Gnu Hurd. And why is it a failure? Because he is a hopeless academic, the only people working on Minix openly are academics (it does end up used in other places too like Intel's spyware blob).

The United States of America is a constitutional republic, with a few social safety net programs. Try again. It would help a lot of people would stop being morons. Democrats are socialists, of the worst variety (the kind that have zero value for life) take a look at any of the welfare state cities in the US... complete trash holes.

There were allegations that ReactOS used leaked code many years ago. It basically brought the project to a halt for a year or two to make sure that wasn't true.
It is true, that clean-room documentation from leaked code can be used to understand and reimplement internals better. But the danger of allegations of code theft is real.

                    ReactOS contributes to Wine.

No, because Minix should've contributed to Unix VII which Minix 1.0 was compatible with
