    Base is compiled using LLVM 8 - before some Linux die-hard starts yet again yawing about GCC 4.2.

      phoronix : In the release notes for FreeBSD 12.1 it says "The trim(8) utility has been added". How did FreeBSD users trim their SSDs before?

      The release notes for FreeBSD 12.1-RELEASE contain a summary of the changes made to the FreeBSD base system on the 12-STABLE development line. This document lists applicable security advisories that were issued since the last release, as well as significant changes to the FreeBSD kernel and userland. Some brief remarks on upgrading are also presented.

        tunefs -t enable|disable / when UFS2 file system. Applied from single user mode. Once, if not already enabled install-time (among fs options in FreeBSD installer). From there it does not require any further attention.

        Not required when using ZFS. Can't remember precise oid, you can find it out for yourselves and check if trim is functional on ZFS system by sysctl -a | grep trim
        It usually does not need any meddling and seems to be enabled automatically when you have ZFS on your SSD.
        Trim, if enabled, is then performed automatically, no need for weekly cronjob or anything. Vendors/manufacturers make no diff .
