      IIRC, VirtualBox heavily leverages QEmu as a backend, so if it works in VBox, there are good chances that it will work in QEmu as well.

        You're confusing VirtualBox with GNOME Boxes.

          After additional fact-checking, there is no confusion here, though the usage of QEMU is a bit more specialized than I thought. VirtualBox falls back to QEMU when it is not safe to run x86 code directly for some reason (e.g. VT-x is not available and the usual ring 1 tricks do not work). See the "Technical background" chapter of the user manual for some discussion.
