    And no, we do not recommend disabling anti-malware, nor excluding your distro folder(s). We are working various aspects of disk IO perf and have improvements being investigated and/or fixes queued up for implementation over the next few Windows releases. Bear with us.

    I noticed Ubuntu on WSL was way too slow here, but disabling Windows Defender made it perform much better.

    Yesterday I found out that most of the performance hit WSL has comes from Windows Defender not liking what WSL does.

    Did you have Windows Defender on or off in those tests?

    I noticed Ubuntu on WSL was way too slow here, but disabling Windows Defender made it perform much better.
