Please report on the Ubuntu 17.10 issue that currently bricks Lenovo laptops!

I didn't know of another way to submit a (very important) story, so I'll do it this way. Feel free to reprimand me if this is not the appropriate channel for this.
Could you please report on the important news that installing Ubuntu 17.10 on certain Lenovo and Acer laptop models can lead to serious (and as of yet irreversible) BIOS corruption, which causes boot problems?
I tried searching Phoronix for this news, but apparently, it has not yet been reported on here.
