All small businesses are crippled, by definition, to remain small, because of the limited imagination and business skills of the immediate managers. Smallness has poor or zero growth & management-succession plans, especially obvious with lack of Google web-robot transparency, etc.
Many of us have strong good-will towards Distrowatch atm. As long as Dw's competitors realize that their weaknesses could be overcome by well established business practices, this will enable Dw to continue its business existence in its narrow market niche.
Hopefully the Dw business will survive as a small businesses. In the gambling game for survival, statistics show that few businesses stay healthy after several years. Business evolution shows us that this adventurous gambling allows the growth of just a tiny per cent of important, valuable innovations.
IBM, etc realized it needed to create & maintain independent quasi-autonomous units, as blue-sky "pilot" units, with little or zero accountability to the shareholders, and a high business failure rate.
Any Linux marketing group needs to also understand these realities of good business practices, imho.
For example, in Linux, will Redhat's new baby or Ubuntu's "Snappy" package die first, or merge? System-D seems to be "winning, but Linux's Wayland replace both x-windows and kill Cononical's Mir? Linux has scarcely survived the one-per-cent of desktop operating systems. Now it has a few other more succesful and new Unix-derived operating systems trying stop the existence of Linux desktop: Android & Android-derivatives, Apple IOS, and the many BSD-derivatives.
Hopefully Dw or its media competitors might better understand these computer operating system markets? The GOP (grand old party) conservatives, with their tedious, secretive, skilled source code compilations ... dominate, atm. Alchemists from the Darth-Vader ages are proud of their magical formulas. Current computer associations, institutions, etc are very happy with the GOP, with its magical promises. Seig Heil Donald Duck Trump !!; forthcoming dictator of Planet Earth, leading it into his next (fifth) corporate bankruptcy. wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Trump (29 mentions of "bankrupt"). England, today, has stopped being GOP. We in Australia hope not, though our current Federal government claims to be GOP, until our July 2nd Federal elections. USA-based Dw is also GOP?
