  • low-quality spammy adverts being served on phoronix

I came to read the following article: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?pag...=Samba-4.4-RC1

I have uBlock, but at your request I've whitelisted phoronix.com .

But today I see the following awful examples of advertising:

This is effectively digital snake oil, and it turns my stomach to see this garbage.

Please follow this up with your advertisers to increase the quality of advertising.

I personally believe in the importance of the advertising business model on the web, but am tempted to turn on ad-blockers when I see examples of such low integrity.

Do you know the domain of those shoddy ads? When I come across them or see them reported, I block them. Unfortunately, there isn't much to be done with "increase the quality of advertising" with already serving all available impressions of the companies actually interested in advertising on a Linux site, so short of getting more companies to want to run ads on a Linux enthusiast oriented site (which is difficult when they simply want to target the larger Windows markets generally), the extra ads are then diverted to these lower-quality 'network ads' due to having not enough Linux/tech-specific ads to fill everything.

I don't know if legitimate adverts come from there though. And I wasn't going to click through to find out more.

Bah, couldn't find a combination of filters in uBlock that would get rid of the adverts at issue here without getting rid of all of them.

Anyhow, just subscribed. I've been reading this site for years and you definitely deserve it. Solved.

tribalfusion is just the network serving the ads, not sure where those ads are linked to without viewing source to page (or clicking the link).

          Thanks for subscribing! Appreciated!
