Can we have a method to log in from the front page? It would be nice if I didn't have to go into the forums, log in, and then back to the home screen.

Edit: Holy crap that's so much smoother. It feels like a native app on my phone.

While I'm not premium subscriber, these new screens do not look "exciting" at all. Because ... because do you honestly think it is "exciting" when web site barely uses some 50% of quite small screen. I can imagine it would use just about 25% of screen width on my desktop. That's not what I would call "exciting" for sure - I would rather call it awful and dumb design with poor usability. No, I'm fine if web site looking good on smartphones and tablets. Yet it sucks really hard when web site uses only 25% of my PC's monitor...

Keep in mind the screenshots I took were from my 4K display.

Wonderful, mind sharing what phone you're using? Just curious / trying to see what sort of devices people are using the most.

There isn't currently a login from the main page due to being handled by two different systems: the forums are all vBulletin while the main site is the in-house content management system... FOr premium tracking, it just latches onto some cookies and performs some database queries.

What I miss a lot is a function that had been lost since some phoronix changes about a year ago - plain linear news archive. Nowdays news archive is always split up by categories so it is a painful experience to fetch up all news for a some defined period in the past. Let's say I've been offline for a two weeks and now I want to check out all news that had been posted on phoronix during my vacation. The way I expect this to be handled is to browse to a news archive page and have there a linear list of article titles sorted in reverse posting datetime order. The way it is now is to open up each and every category, rinse, repeat. It's cumbersome at best and it definitely not a way to provide user with a good site browsing experience.

With the new site, at the bottom of the home page is now a "Past 30 Days of News" link that will take you to a listing of all phoronix articles/reviews for the past month.

Looks nice, good job Jorge I'm not a premium member (but I disabled adblock for phoronix), so I can only judge by the screenshots.

If you think there's too much whitespace left/right, remember that text is hard to read when there are too many words in a single text line. So with big screens, some white space is required to allow for easy reading. (Or lots of menus etc. need to go where the white space is now, but that would be ugly.) Maybe set your browser windows to half (horizontal) screen size and put 2 of them next to each other.

Somewhat off-topic: The new forum layout tends to re-scroll to the first post in a thread repeatedly during page load after clicking the "Comments" link for a news article. Since loading the page takes quite a few seconds until everything is rendered correctly on my android phone (Nexus 4), that is annoying. (I could start reading the second post if it wouldn't jump back to the first post all the time.)
