Also it seems some people don't get that encrypting open accessible content also has the advantage that it's signed, so there can't be a man-in-the-middle attack/modification and MITM can't see what you're interested in.
As for the adblocker, I've just disabled AdBlock Edge, then Ghostery blocked them, which I gradually disabled to still block the social category. I stopped at 67 loaded advertising providers and one cpu at 100% for several seconds.
Sorry, I the ads ruin the user experience that hard you wont be able to convince people to disable adblockers.

For those who believe that the content shouldn't be https:
1. So you don't care about encrypting content. Can you be sure that's true for everyone?
2. More importantly, what about authentication? How do you know it's actually Phoronix you're connecting to and not some MITM on your network throwing JS exploits at your browser until something sticks? Or even more likely, how would a common user stop a public wifi hotspot injecting tracking cookies into the page?
