War against spam

Any chance of doing drastic actions like eg only counting posts on moderated parts of forum towards the count that you can starting posting without pre-moderation? This would not only prevent spammers from abusing unmonitored sections for gaining a high post count you can use to post elsewhere but also possibly long-term calm down unmonitored sections when spammers notice this tactic no longer works. I suspect many of the parties attacking this site with spam bots are well aware of how site policies work

Oh, also being able to filter activity stream to only have posts from moderated parts of forum would be really nice to have

So where is this spam you're talking about? I personally haven't really seen any spam on Phoronix.

There are trolls but that isn't the same thing and the ones we have here aren't that annoying and at least keep things technology oriented.

Yesterday there were something like 80 topics made by a single spambot. If you browse primarily by "new topics", they'll block out all legit discussion.

Another set of these appeared recently. Somehow they seems to be especially nasty as they only post empty thread with no messages. Somehow, there is no standard way to report empty thread to moderators (probably that's why bots are removing posts, making thread empty).
