I want to see how the 3rd-party Linux based firmware perform.
DSL Reports did a great series on this:

They are about 2 years old now, but should yield some good insights.

        Hi,

I really would like to see lastet STABLE (12.04 currently) Ubuntu tested on the laptops along the latest and greatest (13.10). Those are options ppl choose to install on them if not already installed.

        regards
        Me

From what I have read Broadwell laptops are not expected until the 2nd half of 2014, so I don't think it's that close.

I own an 1 year old Dell Inspiron (with an AMD dedicated card in complement to the intel hd graphics),
and it works well with Linux. The screen is full HD (15") and is of high quality.

If you take a high end laptop with intel Haswell, I imagine that for a few more money, you can get the same with a dedicated card (in complement to the intel hd graphics).
Buying such a laptop would allow you to make tests of Optimus or hybrid graphics (power comsumption, comparative performance to if the card was on a desktop pc).

I think the dedicated card has to be mid or high level (I don't understand the point of having a poor performance dedicated card).

                Zenbook infinity

You should give the Asus UX301LA-DH71T a try.

Dell Venue 11 Pro with the keyboard-hinge cover for sure -- it's a better Surface Pro for $600 (if Bay Trail performance is acceptable to you).

Apparently the touchscreen isn't working yet, but I'd really love to see these supported... http://www.happyassassin.net/2013/11...-pro-bay-trail
