Will try blocking skiamade.com with Tribal to see if that fixes it.
The particular ad no longer displays, however it was replaced by an equally obnoxious ad at the same position.

This is the code which was apparently inserted to display the ad:

    • Ah, yes, this ad. I'd been browsing Phoronix with the adblocker turned off, but after seeing this movie window that follows everywhere as I scroll it's back on again. Sorry, I want to support Phoronix, but this is too much.

Currently working on tracking it down to see how it shows up but so far haven't figured out which ad unit it's getting injected from, hope to have it solved soon.

So what is the status on this? I now get an autoplay video ad which is more than 1/3 height of the page, covers content and follows around when scrolling.

Sometimes I wonder how anybody who is less tolerant of such annoying ads can still visit Phoronix without an ad blocker.

          • I'm not sure which ad it is, but something keeps automatically redirecting the web page to https://www.facebook.com-appple.com/...21359534657578 or similar.

I'm using Google Chrome on Android if that helps any.

I've seen this as well and have been working on getting it tracked down.

              • PREAMBLE: I don't recall having ever used any ad block thing in my life.

Hi, I'm using Firefox 61.0.2 at home and I want to report 2 issues:
                1) Faulty ad redirection: Entering https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=home I've found a Crucial MX500 500GB ad, I've middle clicked on it to open it in a new tab ad it went on www.google.com instead of opening the ad site. Second and third attempts successfully opened the SSD page on amazon. I've no shortcut to open a new tab redirected to Google and the default action for a new tab is an empty one, so I've no idea about what happened.
                2) No ad: I've to check better, but at work I think I've read various article without ever seeing an ad, I was disappointed and felt sorry for you Michael. No kidding: I don't mind a few ads to support a website, also when ad redirect me to tech stuff sometimes I check them. I just can't stand spammy ones (like penis/breasts enlargement and slimming/fitting pills) or "last mainstream fashion/trend I don't give a damn about".
                3) Double ad: Before logging into the forum I've seen what I think was an extra ad. There was the top banner-like ad, under it the Phoronix bar with Forums/Phoronix.com/Phoronix Test Suite/OpenBenchmarking.org links, under it 2 ads in cascade and under them (so out of the initial visible portion of the screen) the Forums section. I don't know if it's inteded for not-logged in users, but I'm reporting it as it seems a design flaw.

                • @Michael: I read your site regularly and have disabled Adblock Plus and Ghostery for Phoronix. But it seems that (at least in Europe) your ad-partners are being nasty and get blocked by EFF's Privacy Badger. Could you talk to your ad-partners?
It would be nice to see some ads to support you. And I believe that there are a lot of people adding exceptions for ads from renowned sites like yours in Adblock. But Privacy Badger is something which I think is not going to be turned off by the people who use it - for any site, including yours.

Maybe I'm wrong and this is not worth the effort, but who knows. Just wanted to report this if you weren't already aware of it.

P.S.: I still see ads on my mobile phone, so I'm only leeching about half the time.

                  • I have been a Phoronix subscriber for some time now (two years?) and my PayPal bank card number expired so got rolled back to un-premium. I decided to up my subscription method from monthly recurring to yearly. Updated PayPal, made the subscription, ads are now gone (never used any AdBlock in my life, so it's not that) but the placeholders for the ads are still there and I don't see the "Premium" in the banner either. (See here, can't even attach photos, says I'm not allowed to.) It seems to have got stuck in between premium and not.

Solved now. Don't know if remote action was needed or just giving it time. (It wasn't a browser issue, as I paid and first saw on mobile but made the screenshot on my desktop, so it wasn't "just a reload page" issue.)
