Allow to like forum posts again and restore the existing likes

    Michael!

Please, allow to like forum posts again and restore the existing likes, thank you!

A lot of people have said this feature is sorely missing.

Also, posts mentioning you (or anyone else? I've not tested) cannot be made. This results in error 403.

I like and agree with the above post.

I would like it if the forum contributors and readers were also informed whether:

    a) an active decision to remove the 'like' functionality has been taken.
    b) an active decision to restore the 'like' functionality has been taken, but implementation is turning out to be difficult for some reason
    c) difficulties in providing the 'like' functionality in the upgraded software mean an active decision to not pursue restoring it has been taken
    d) apathy rules, 'likes' don't generate revenue, so who cares.

Are likes coming back? Any issues with them?

Still battling it... The "reactions" system is enabled and for all users. Been going through all the theme code to verify it's there. And looking in threads there is indeed "reactions__add-reaction--icon" and other "reactions" tags in the footer of each post. But looks like some CSS/JS isn't exactly hitting right. Still working to sort it out.

I'd give you a 'like' as feedback, and encouragement to keep going, but...

Is the plan to have user-chosen icon 'reactions' for postings, together with the usernames reacting, like below?

You could just convert upvotes to "Likes" and enable reactions.

That would be easier than enabling your custom plugin which you haven't been able to accomplish in a month now.

In every other topic people lament the absence of likes.

Forget the likes, add the ignore user button instead (or please point me to the functionality if it exists already).

There's no benefit in having the likes, apart from massaging the forumers' egos, which only incentivizes pathetic flames (over desktop environments, programming languages, OSes, none the less...), personal opinions repeatedly shouted as they were universal truths to be accepted by everybody, by demeaning others' choices or developers' work.

As things stand now, there are too many discussions where the protagonists are only engaged in trying to appear like they are winning an argument and humiliating the opponent in front of an imaginary arena of spectators, who can cheer on with their likes. This is infantile at best. A downvote or dislike option wouldn't make it better.

Yes, there are news websites and forums where the readers can vote up the most interesting comments, but the most voted one is not generally the most insightful and in any case it wouldn't be useful if the posts are not ranked based on their recommendation numbers. Instead, we have to scroll through endless absurd useless exchanges between keyboard warriors (which would never happen in real life, in a non anonymized, face-to-face environment... and that says something) hoping to find a pearl of knowledge or an interesting point of view.

So another good feature would be to have threaded discussions, where one could just move on from a thread which has nothing to offer, or an ignore thread button as well.

Those who enjoy engaging in keyboard battles to show off their (supposed) superiority could continue to do so. Those who have better ways of spending their time could decide, after five, six, ten... irritating posts, that someone has nothing to offer and remove them from their sight.
