I am a premium for life subscriber and have not regretted that. But it is a bit annoying to be yelled at for using 'adblock' when I am simply using the DuckDuckGo browser on Android, and it should not have been necessary to log in to the forum to 'activate' the premium 'power'. That has at least been my experience so far.

Other than that, Keep up the good work and glad to be a subscriber. Cheers!

I have to disable the ad blocker to even access the forum controls like the Bold and Italics buttons, to see emojis in posts, some pictures in articles, and probably more. The problem with disabling ads on Phoronix is that the ads Michael uses are some of the worst ads on the internet in regards to how much they track the user and intrude on content.

Turn on ads and you'll get a full page ad in-between every other forum post.
Turn on ads and there are so many ads you can't even see a damn headline on the main Phoronix.com page.
Turn on ads and it'll speak with my Android phone and start popping up ads for places I was shopping at the day before.

It's one thing that they're the worst placed ads on the internet out of all the web sites, but they're also very intrusive and track identities. Phoronix ads are like, "Hey, Skeevy, why don't you drive a few blocks, take the first two lefts and then a right, and come back to Hobby Lobby so you can buy more things like you did yesterday." That actually happened to me with Phoronix advertising. That's why I still run my ad blocker.

Sites like Phoronix are why the FBI, NSA, and other government agencies recommend that we run an ad blocker and don't use things like TikTok.

The worst part is that on my screen there's an entire 4x3 monitor's worth of unused blank space on either side the page on my 21x9 display. There was half of that available on my previous 16x9 monitor. There's no reason why there can't be some less intrusive, less shady ads there off to the sides. Don't replace the two posts I can see at a time with one ad and no posts. Put the ads at the side where there's nothing but gray space.

I have no idea how Michael thinks he'll retain new users if they're not using an ad blocker to begin with. No rational person will come to Phoronix and stay with the level of advertising that Phoronix presents to them. They're unethical ads in an amateur layout.

I'm logged into premium, I have ABP on, and even at this moment, it's skyrocketing into thousands of things blocked and my CPU usage is insane.

Did you check 'remember me' when logging in? There shouldn't be anything to block when in as premium unless maybe it's like blocking remote fonts or things like that.

I just enabled ads and, on this page alone, literally this page here, I have 12 ads for Max, 3 for Lowes, one that alternates between Jared and Peacock, one for Amazon Books, and Game of Thrones has its own forum post. Like, it's an ad that looks like a forum post. I hit refresh and waxhead's post was replaced by a post from Lowes.

It's rather funny how advertisers have forum member images instead of that grey silhouette dude the rest of us have.

Use µBlockOrigin ABP is just a CPU hog and doesn't even filter as good as µBlock.

Actually, I am using uBlock Origin. I block all images on this site. I guess that's part of it.

https://www.phoronix.com/forums/core...laceholder.svg seems to be one of the major culprits.

Anyone knows if as a self employed person in the UK, I can take a phoronix subscription off the tax?
