Phoronix: Phoronix Premium Cyber Week Sale To Better Enjoy Our Linux Hardware Reviews & News

While the end of year holidays are fast approaching, my commitment to Linux hardware and open-source software remains and there still is a lot of interesting content to come this year still -- each and every day, without change for roughly a decade. Unfortunately though due to the (sad) state of the ad industry, many major companies focusing on the likes of Facebook/Meta ads, and the frequent use of ad-blockers by Linux/FLOSS readers make ongoing operations increasingly difficult. But if you'd like to show some love this holiday season, the Phoronix Premium "Cyber Week" / "Black Friday" special is now taking place so you can enjoy the site ad-free, native dark mode support, multi-page articles on a single page, and other benefits while hopefully allowing the site to continue for years to come...

Maybe if the news had as much attention to detail and quality control as the "buy subs plz" posts, and benchmarks would benchmark software that community actually uses, more people would pay.

    Just saying.

If the community opens pull requests to extend the test suite it could happen faster.
BTW does a thread about what's missing already exist in this forum?

Is there a way to view how long my current subscription lasts?

To be honest with you, if I visited your site for the first time without a subscription or ad blocker, I would run away because the Google Adsense advertising is way too intrusive on Phoronix !!!

In my opinion, using Adsense makes no sense if it scares away new readers, it's a counterproductive approach ;-(

You yourself, in all sincerity, would you regularly read a site where there are lots of ads?? And would you want to make donations in such a situation ??

It's the story of the cat biting its tail "ads > dissatisfied readers > no donations, no money > more ads > less readers > etc".

If I were you, I would do a test by removing the ads for a while. Instead, you could, as Unic0rn suggests, regularly remind people of the need to make a donation and at the same time create a web page, a bit similar to what Linux Mint does on its blog, where you would report the status of your readers donations & subscriptions. This would certainly motivate people to be spontaneously more generous with you...

                  Good continuation.

Also once I get some income Phoronix is one of the first places I plan on donating to! The news is varied and I find articles to be good quality!
