Phoronix: Improvements To The Ad Experience

As a result of user feedback and being able to reproduce some annoying ad experiences, particularly on mobile devices, I've been able to make some enhancements to hopefully improve the user ad experience when browsing Phoronix...

Phoronix, Linux Hardware Reviews, Linux hardware benchmarks, Linux server benchmarks, Linux benchmarking, Desktop Linux, Linux performance, Open Source graphics, Linux How To, Ubuntu benchmarks, Ubuntu hardware, Phoronix Test Suite

Dunno - it's still bouncing all over the place when I try to type messages. Why the need to reload them?

Are you talking just about the forums or what?

Yeah, but I sometimes need to load a phoronix article on a machine at work or share it with a co-worker. I don't use my personal accounts for any websites from any of my work machines, which means I still somewhat care about the experience when viewing ads.

Phoronix ought to consider using Carbon Ads which are tech ads which are likely to be relevant and interesting to the target audience of this website.

Sometimes I read articles via Google News and I don't have my accounts in them nor do I have an ad blocker that works system wide on Android. I don't mind ads, I just don't like those annoying ads that cover up content or move around the page. With Phoronix on Android, Firefox and Google, I usually get those annoying square ads in between paragraphs and banner ads. The square ads are like what Quackdoc shows only I don't seem to have the jumping around problem. I also don't browse the forums from mobile enough to notice. I really don't like using my phone for more than music and light reading. Touch input sucks as the primary input method.

Regardless, I'm not premium and use and ad blocker 100% of the time on PC or when making comments. Sorry, but I'm not going to disable my ad blocker for one site. Using an ad blocker is one of the suggested government recommendations that I actually follow. I just do not trust ads or what could happen if I click them.

The most I'm willing to do is switch over to a blocker like AdNauseam for sites I like even though I don't like the idea of using something that has any more interaction with ads than blocking them. It seems like it's an ethical way of blocking ads. Even so, I quit using it in lieu of a traditional ad blocker since practically any site I frequent I haven't seen the webmaster comment one way or the other about how AdNauseam might affect a site's revenue generation from ads in a positive or negative manner.

can't you just make a rule for Phoronix?
I use adblockers as well, but tend to disable it for sites that I want to support. (or I just get the premium account during sales)

I use the DuckDuckGo browser on Android and get the adblock warning despite having premium for life. Perhaps a 'cheap' workaround could have been to make a forum post that redirected to the main page as I never get these if I am logged into the form first. E.g. so that could have been bookmarked instead of phoenix.com (how about login.phoronix.com)

And regarding my premium for life, I sometimes (but too seldom) donate a bit every now and then, but it would have been nice with a yearly reminder to remember to donate a bit if possible.
