Think of it this way: If you go have a walk at the mall, you'll see a lot of ads in front of every store, but that is no problem. The stores are there to sell their products and you are there, from their point of view, as a potential buyer. Even if you don't go with the intention of buying anything, you kind of agree to put up with seeing the advertisements. They don't do much harm, after all. And you always have the choice of staying in the comfort of your home.
With online browsing, it's different. You are in the comfort of your home - or, alternatively, you are at work - and you browse websites for purposes that, save for a few exceptions, absolutely do not involve being shown advertisements to. I myself, am usually trying to get work done. The fact that the website I'm visiting uses an advertising network to try and show me ads in invasive to me. Not to mention the tracking. So, when a website tries to force me to disable the ad blocker, I'm not visiting it again. I even add it to the ad blocker's blacklist and to a Google search blacklist extension to make sure of it.
Edit: One thing I don't understand about Ad Nauseam. Considering an ad network tracks what pages an user visits unless the tracker is not blocked at the network request level, this addon is not so great for privacy, is it? If the ads are loaded (in order for the addon to auto-click them), that means the ad network (eg. Google Ads) are still informed you visited the page.
Update: I asked this on their issue tracker. https://github.com/dhowe/AdNauseam/issues/1563
